IMU CET (Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test) is the national entrance exam for merchant navy and maritime degree programmes in India. Clearing it is the first and essential step toward becoming a marine officer or engineer.
You need 12th standard with PCM, typically 60% aggregate in PCM and 50% in English. Age limit is 17–25 years, and you must be medically fit as per DG Shipping norms including vision standards.
Six areas: Physics (50Q), Mathematics (50Q), Chemistry (25Q), English (25Q), General Knowledge (25Q) and General Aptitude (25Q) — 200 MCQs total over three hours, with PCM carrying the largest weight.
DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science) is a one-year course on the deck side — you become a Deck Cadet working toward Captain. B.Tech Marine Engineering is a four-year degree on the engine side — you become an Engine Cadet working toward Chief Engineer.
