JN Port has further strengthened its position as India’s leading container gateway. How do you assess its FY 2025–26 performance in throughput,

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) continues to solidify its status as India’s premier container gateway, with Chairperson Gaurav Dayal, IAS, outlining an ambitious trajectory for FY 2025–26. As the port manages record-breaking throughput, the focus shifts toward expanding capacity for ultra-large container vessels like the MSC Tessa and CMA CGM A. Lincoln. By integrating advanced digital logistics and green infrastructure, JNPA aims to enhance global supply chain efficiency, ensuring that Indian maritime trade remains competitive against major international transshipment hubs.

Operational excellence at JNPA is increasingly aligned with international maritime standards, particularly MARPOL Annex VI regarding sulfur emission limits and the IMO 2023 carbon intensity regulations. Compliance departments must ensure that vessels calling at the port strictly adhere to SOLAS Chapter XI-2 requirements and the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. These regulatory frameworks are critical for maintaining seamless port operations, as port state control inspections now prioritize environmental reporting and digital documentation under the latest amendments to the FAL Convention.

For navigating officers and masters, the shift toward a greener, digitized JNPA necessitates strict adherence to updated port entry protocols and electronic data interchange systems. Navigating officers must ensure precise vessel positioning and compliance with local VTS guidelines to avoid delays in high-traffic zones. Understanding the integration of shore-based power supply and automated terminal procedures is now essential for bridge teams to maintain operational efficiency and safety standards during every port call at this expanding facility.
