The Maharashtra Maritime Board has officially announced the seasonal closure of minor ports across the Maharashtra state coastline, effective from May 26 to August 31, 2026, due to the onset of the foul weather season. According to GAC port reports, all minor ports, with the notable exception of Jaigad, will suspend shipping activities and vessel navigation to ensure safety during the monsoon. This directive impacts regional maritime logistics and requires immediate route planning adjustments for vessels operating within Indian coastal waters.

This mandatory suspension aligns with the safety management requirements mandated under SOLAS Chapter V, Regulation 34, which requires masters to ensure that the intended voyage is planned taking into account all navigational hazards and adverse weather conditions. Compliance departments must ensure that vessel passage plans are updated to reflect these port closures, as failure to adhere to local maritime authority directives can lead to significant legal liabilities. Furthermore, adherence to these seasonal restrictions is critical for maintaining valid P&I insurance coverage and ensuring overall vessel seaworthiness during the monsoon.

Masters and navigating officers must immediately review their passage plans and coordinate with local agents to identify alternative berths or anchorage areas. It is essential for these rank groups to monitor local weather bulletins and strictly follow the Maharashtra Maritime Board’s navigation notices. Ensuring that all bridge team members are briefed on these specific port closures will prevent unauthorized entry into restricted zones and mitigate the risk of maritime incidents during the volatile monsoon season.
