Fujairah’s Fuel Oil Inventories Rise Massively This Month

17 July 2026

Fujairah’s fuel oil stocks have averaged 111% higher so far this month than across June, Fujairah Oil Industry Zone (FOIZ) and S&P Global data shows. Changes in monthly average Fujairah stocks from June to July (so far): • Heavy distillate and residual stocks up 3.84 million bbls to 7.29 million bbl

Fujairah’s fuel oil inventories have experienced a dramatic surge this July, with average stocks climbing 111% compared to June figures. According to data from the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone (FOIZ) and S&P Global, heavy distillate and residual stocks rose by 3.84 million barrels to reach 7.29 million barrels. This significant accumulation at the Port of Fujairah, a critical bunkering hub for merchant navy vessels, reflects shifting global trade patterns and potential fluctuations in regional bunker fuel demand.

This inventory spike carries implications for compliance under MARPOL Annex VI, which governs the prevention of air pollution from ships. As vessels bunkering in Fujairah navigate these high-stock conditions, they must ensure strict adherence to bunker delivery note requirements and fuel quality standards mandated by the IMO’s 2020 global sulphur cap. Furthermore, operational teams must remain vigilant regarding SOLAS Chapter II-2 regulations concerning the safe storage and handling of fuel oils, ensuring that onboard bunker management systems remain fully compliant with international safety protocols.

Chief engineers and second engineers must remain particularly alert during this period of high inventory. These rank groups should prioritize rigorous fuel testing and bunker sampling to ensure that the increased local supply meets the required specifications before intake. By verifying the compatibility and stability of these fuels, engine room teams can prevent potential machinery damage, ensure optimal engine performance, and avoid costly off-hire incidents resulting from contaminated or off-specification bunker fuel supplies at the port.
