Auro’s Gateway Port Limited (KGPL) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sravan Shipping Services Pvt. Ltd to develop a 1 MTPA integrated liquid cargo tank farm. Located at the strategic Kakinada port, this infrastructure project aims to bolster the East Coast’s maritime industrial capacity. By facilitating efficient liquid bulk handling, the partnership positions Kakinada as a vital gateway for chemical and petroleum logistics, significantly enhancing regional trade connectivity and operational throughput for vessels calling at the port.
The development of liquid cargo tank farms necessitates strict adherence to MARPOL Annex II regulations, which govern the control of pollution by noxious liquid substances in bulk. Furthermore, operations must comply with SOLAS Chapter II-2 regarding fire protection, detection, and extinction protocols for hazardous cargo handling. Compliance departments must ensure that all terminal infrastructure meets the latest International Maritime Organization (IMO) safety standards and classification society requirements for chemical storage. These regulatory frameworks are essential for mitigating environmental risks and ensuring seamless port-vessel interface compatibility during cargo transfer operations.
For navigating officers and deck officers, this expansion means increased traffic and more complex cargo operations at Kakinada. These professionals must familiarize themselves with updated port-specific liquid handling procedures and safety protocols. It is critical that navigating officers review the latest terminal information booklets and ensure that all ship-to-shore communication protocols align with the new tank farm specifications to maintain safety standards during docking and liquid bulk discharge operations in the East Coast region.
