On May 19, a naming ceremony was held at Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. for the DIAMOND GAS JADE, a newly built 174,000 m3 membrane-type LNG carrier. Owned by a joint venture involving Mitsubishi Corporation subsidiary Diamond Global Energy Pte. Ltd. and operated by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” LINE), this vessel represents a significant addition to the global fleet. The deployment of such advanced LNG tonnage underscores the industry's ongoing commitment to energy efficiency and modern maritime logistics.

The operation of the DIAMOND GAS JADE must strictly adhere to the International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk (IGC Code) and MARPOL Annex VI, which regulates nitrogen oxide and sulfur oxide emissions. Furthermore, compliance with SOLAS Chapter II-2 regarding fire protection and the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) is mandatory. These regulatory frameworks ensure that high-capacity LNG carriers maintain stringent safety standards and environmental performance during global transit operations.

For chief engineers and second engineers, the commissioning of the DIAMOND GAS JADE necessitates a deep understanding of membrane-type containment systems and boil-off gas management. These officers must prioritize specialized training in cryogenic cargo handling and advanced propulsion maintenance protocols. Staying updated with the latest manufacturer guidelines and classification society requirements for LNG-fueled vessels is essential for ensuring operational efficiency and maintaining the highest safety standards during all cargo transfer and voyage operations.
