Italy’s Next Geosolutions has won a contract from TenneT worth €9m ($10.4m) for marine survey activities in the Voordelta – Nederwiek 3 offshore wind area. The work will assess the technical feasibility of a cable corridor, identify any seabed obstacles, and support the design and engineering phases
Italian marine services provider Next Geosolutions has secured a €9 million contract from TenneT to conduct comprehensive survey operations in the Voordelta and Nederwiek 3 offshore wind zones. The campaign focuses on assessing the technical feasibility of critical subsea cable corridors, identifying seabed hazards, and gathering geotechnical data to support engineering design. This project is vital for the expansion of Dutch offshore wind infrastructure, ensuring that future cable installations meet rigorous safety standards while navigating complex North Sea environmental conditions.
These survey operations must strictly adhere to the International Maritime Organization’s SOLAS Chapter V, Regulation 9, which mandates the provision of hydrographic services to ensure safe navigation and environmental protection. Compliance with the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) Annex I is also critical for survey vessels operating in sensitive Dutch waters. Classification societies, such as DNV or Bureau Veritas, require these detailed seabed assessments to verify that subsea assets remain compliant with international safety standards and operational integrity protocols.
This project directly impacts navigating officers and masters responsible for survey vessel operations. These professionals must ensure precise dynamic positioning and real-time monitoring of seabed obstacles to maintain safety during data acquisition. Navigating officers should familiarize themselves with the specific hydrographic survey requirements for the Nederwiek 3 area, ensuring that all electronic chart display and information systems are updated to reflect the latest seabed findings to mitigate risks during the cable corridor development phase.
