Suardiaz Energy has officially expanded its fleet capabilities through a strategic agreement with Spanish marine fuel supplier Moeve, deploying the newly acquired chemical tanker RS Onza. Delivered recently in Singapore, the IMO Type 2 vessel is specifically engineered for the transport of methanol, marking a significant advancement in sustainable bunkering logistics. This partnership highlights the growing demand for specialized tonnage capable of handling alternative fuels, as Moeve strengthens its operational footprint within the global maritime energy supply chain.
The deployment of the RS Onza must strictly adhere to the International Bulk Chemical (IBC) Code, which governs the design, construction, and equipment of ships carrying dangerous chemicals in bulk. As an IMO Type 2 tanker, the vessel is subject to rigorous inspections under MARPOL Annex II, ensuring the safe carriage of noxious liquid substances. Compliance departments must ensure that all onboard procedures align with SOLAS Chapter VII regulations regarding the carriage of dangerous goods, maintaining the highest safety standards for methanol handling and environmental protection protocols.
For chief engineers and second engineers, the operation of the RS Onza requires specialized training in handling low-flashpoint fuels and complex cargo pumping systems. These officers must ensure that all methanol-specific safety equipment, including gas detection systems and inert gas plants, are maintained in accordance with the latest class requirements. Navigating officers must also familiarize themselves with updated port-specific bunkering regulations to ensure seamless operations during fuel transfer procedures in various international jurisdictions.
