Strategic Marine has secured a significant contract with Mainprize Offshore to construct two 33-metre Supa Swath crew transfer vessels (CTVs), marking their third consecutive collaboration. These high-performance aluminium vessels are set to become the largest in the Supa Swath series to date, enhancing offshore wind support capabilities. By leveraging advanced hull design, these vessels ensure superior stability in challenging sea states, reinforcing the long-standing partnership between the Singapore-based shipbuilder and the UK-based offshore service provider for future projects.

The design and construction of these Supa Swath CTVs must strictly adhere to the International Maritime Organization’s High-Speed Craft (HSC) Code, ensuring compliance with SOLAS Chapter X regarding safety measures for high-speed vessels. Furthermore, these vessels must meet stringent classification society requirements for stability and structural integrity under dynamic loading conditions. Compliance departments must ensure that all onboard equipment, including fire detection systems under SOLAS Chapter II-2 and pollution prevention measures mandated by MARPOL Annex VI, are fully integrated to meet international maritime safety standards.

For masters and navigating officers, the introduction of these larger Supa Swath vessels requires updated training on dynamic positioning systems and high-speed manoeuvring in offshore wind farm environments. Navigating officers must familiarise themselves with the unique motion characteristics of the Swath hull design during personnel transfers. Understanding these operational nuances is critical for maintaining safety protocols and ensuring efficient transit times while operating in proximity to offshore wind turbines and complex marine infrastructure.
