TGS lands 4D streamer contract offshore Angola

27 May 2026

Oslo-listed seismic data specialist TGS has been awarded a high-end 4D streamer contract offshore Angola. The program is scheduled to commence acquisition in early July 2026, and the contract is approximately eight months long. The deal improves the company’s strategic position in the Africa region

Oslo-listed seismic data specialist TGS has secured a significant high-end 4D streamer contract offshore Angola, marking a strategic expansion for the company within the African energy sector. The acquisition program is slated to commence in early July 2026, with the project duration spanning approximately eight months. This deployment of advanced seismic technology highlights the increasing demand for high-resolution subsurface imaging, reinforcing the company's operational footprint and market influence in deepwater exploration activities across the West African region.

Operational success for seismic vessels requires strict adherence to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards, specifically under SOLAS Chapter V regarding safety of navigation and the International Management Code for the Safe Operation of Ships (ISM Code). Furthermore, compliance with MARPOL Annex VI regarding air pollution and emissions remains critical for offshore units operating in sensitive Angolan waters. Classification society requirements, such as those mandated by DNV or ABS for specialized seismic survey equipment, ensure that vessel integrity and data acquisition systems meet rigorous international safety and environmental benchmarks.

The operational demands of this eight-month project will place significant responsibilities on navigating officers and chief engineers. Navigating officers must ensure precise station-keeping and dynamic positioning during streamer deployment to avoid subsea hazards. Meanwhile, chief engineers are tasked with maintaining high-uptime reliability for the vessel’s complex power management and seismic propulsion systems. Maintaining strict compliance with survey-specific safety protocols is essential for all bridge and engine room personnel to ensure the project remains on schedule.
