Norden modelling for Hormuz to say closed through year-end

D/S Norden A/S, one of the world’s largest commodity shipping companies, is basing its full-year guidance on the assumption that vessels trapped in the Persian Gulf will remain there until the end of 2026. D/S Norden A/S has officially adjusted its full-year financial guidance, projecting that commercial vessels currently navigating the Persian Gulf will face transit disruptions through the end of 2026. CEO Jan Rindbo confirmed that the Denmark-based shipping giant is factoring prolonged regional instability into its operational planning. This strategic shift reflects growing concerns over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint, where ongoing geopolitical tensions continue to impact global commodity shipping routes and vessel scheduling for major fleet operators.

The prolonged closure of these transit lanes necessitates strict adherence to SOLAS Chapter XI-2, which mandates the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code for all merchant vessels. Compliance departments must ensure that Ship Security Plans (SSPs) are rigorously updated to address high-risk area transit protocols. Furthermore, under MARPOL Annex I, operators must maintain precise oil record books and bunker documentation, as extended loitering or unplanned diversions can complicate fuel management and environmental compliance reporting required by classification societies during unexpected vessel delays.

For masters and navigating officers, this extended uncertainty requires a heightened focus on bridge resource management and contingency planning. These rank groups must prioritize real-time threat assessments and maintain proactive communication with company security officers regarding transit deviations. Navigating officers should review current BIMCO war risk clauses and insurance requirements, ensuring that all crew members remain fully briefed on emergency evacuation procedures and updated security protocols while operating within or near the Persian Gulf region.
