New independent research from Oxford Economics reveals that DP World Mundra, specifically the Mundra International Container Terminal (MICT), contributed $128.9 million to India’s GDP in 2024. The report projects a significant economic surge, estimating that the terminal could drive $9.2 billion in total GDP impact and $6.4 billion in additional exports by 2035. As major container vessels and feeder ships continue to prioritize this strategic gateway, the expansion reinforces Mundra’s critical role in global maritime trade and India’s logistics infrastructure.
Operational efficiency at Mundra remains strictly governed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards, particularly the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and SOLAS Chapter XI-2. Compliance departments must ensure that all vessels calling at MICT strictly adhere to MARPOL Annex VI regarding sulfur emission limits while navigating within Indian territorial waters. Furthermore, adherence to the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006, specifically Title 2 regarding conditions of employment, remains mandatory for all crew members during intensive cargo operations to ensure full regulatory alignment.
This projected growth directly impacts the daily operations of masters and navigating officers tasked with managing rapid turnaround times at the terminal. These officers must prioritize precise bridge resource management and strict compliance with port-specific pilotage requirements to maintain safety during high-density traffic periods. Staying updated on terminal-specific berthing protocols and digital documentation standards is essential for navigating officers to ensure seamless cargo handling and avoid potential operational delays during this period of significant infrastructural expansion.
